Title - Motorcycle

Each state has it's own regulations concerning vehicle registrations. The type of  title a motorcycle is given is determined by those regulations. Be sure you check out the rules of the state you live in and also the state of purchase, if it is different. The best title you can have is the:

Clean Title - Motorcycle
This is also sometimes called the clear title. This type of title can easily be transfered and registered in any state. However, some salvage motorcycles may have a clean title because they have been a theft recovery, or no previous salvage history.

Reconstructed Title - Motorcycle
If you have purchased a motorcycle with a salvage title and repair it, then it passes the DMV inspection, it can be give a reconstructed (or rebuilt) title motorcycle. This type of title for a motorcycle is normally transferable in any state.

Salvage Title - Motorcycle
This title is for a motorcycle that has been in an accident and for which the insurance company has decided that it will cost more to repair it than to fix it. In many states this title can be upgraded to a "reconstructed title" if it is repaired and inspected by the DMV. * Not all states allow this. Please check with your DMV.

Junk Title - Motorcycle
This title is issued to a motorcycle that is considered unrepairable. This motorcycle can never be licensed for on road travel in any state. It is considered to be sold for parts only, however I've known a few of these to be rebuilt for off road use - in which no title is needed. Be careful of the name, as some states call these junk titles, unrebuildable salvage or it could also have what is called a Certificate of Destruction. These bikes are frequently
annotated as export only.

If there is no title to the motorcycle, but it has a bill of sale, then it cannot be repaired, nor can it be exported.
